For the past 5 years American Express has been running an annual Small Business Saturday promo, where Amex cardholders receive a credit for purchases made with their American Express cards at small businesses. This year the promo is returning once again and will be taking place November 29.
This time around, the promo is much better. Unlike last year where the credit was $10 per registered card, this year cardholders will receive up to three $10 credits on purchases of $10+ for up to a total of $30 in statement credits per registered card.
This promo works with both primary and secondary user cards! American Express allows up-to 99 additional/secondary user cards, per account. With many American Express credit cards, additional users are totally FREE. Though it is not recommended to add too many additional user cards, unless you are okay with a “Financial Review” (FR), as adding too many, is one of the risks of getting one. (A “FR” is where American Express suspends your account/s until you provide your tax documents.) Also note, even if you are only planning on adding a few such as 5 or more additional user cards, it is recommended to space them out a bit, to try to avoid a “FR”. When adding additional user cards, AMEX asks for the users social security number. You can just say you don’t have it off hand, and you can also just ignore the requests you will get in the mail.
In the past years all American Express credit cards worked for this promotion – even from 3rd party issuers (excluding 3rd party secondary cards), such as the no annual fee Travelocity American Express credit card which is issued by Barclays bank. However, if for whatever reason you do not get the credit/s automatically, unlike with cards issued directly by American Express, where getting the credit issued manually is as simple as a phone call or chatting online, with a 3rd party issued card it will be extremely difficult.
American Express Serve and Bluebird are also eligible.
To take part in this promo you will need to register your American Express credit cards. Each card will need to be registered separately. Registration can be done starting at 12:00 A.M. MST (Mountain Standard Time) on 11/16/14 through 11:59 P.M. MST on 11/29/14, unless the registration limit is reached sooner. You can register via www.shopsmall.com, on Facebook at amex.co/facebook or on Twitter by tweeting #AmexShopSmall .
You are able to use the same email address for all registrations. Registration is limited.
To get the credits, you will need to spend $10 or more in a single in-store transaction at a qualifying small business that appears on the Small Business Saturday Map. Online transactions do not qualify.
