Through November 30, 2013, American Express Membership Rewards is offering a 20% bonus when transferring points to the Choice Privileges hotel program.

Normally points transfer at a ratio of 1 American Express Membership Reward point to 1 Choice Privileges point – which isn’t all that great in terms of value – but at least with this new promotion, you can a little better value as a transfer 1,000 Amex will now net you 1,200 Choice Privileges points instead.

The last time Amex had a transfer promo to choice privileges it was a 50% bonus, but that was already a couple of years ago.

Choice Privileges hotel points can be redeemed at over 6,000 locations. Choice award nights require between 6,000 to 35,000 points per nigh, so with the 20% bonus it comes down to 5,000-30,000 Amex MR points.

Choice Hotel brands include, Clarion, Comfort Inn, Roadway Inn, Mainstay Suites, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Ascend Collection, Econo Lodge and Cambria Suites.

As with any redemption, you’ll want to do the math for yourself to figure out if the specific redemption you’re interested makes sense in terms of value.
