50,000 Bonus Points On Alaska Air Credit Card + What They Are Good For

Update: This offer is expired.

There is currently an awesome offer for 50,000 bonus points on the Bank of America Alaska Airlines credit card. This offer is “officially” targeted, though I have personally applied for 2 of them at the same time, using 2 different browsers and have been approved for the Visa Signature version on both!

Capture

There are 3 versions for this card, Visa Signature, Platinum Plus or Preferred. YOU WILL ONLY receive the 50,000 bonus if you are approved for the Visa Signature version – Which requires a $5,000 minimum credit line. If you are approved for the Platinum version your bonus will be just 5,000 points or with the preferred version, just 3,000 bonus points. The problem is though, that it’s possible even though you applied for the Visa Signature version, that you will only be approved for a lower version card.

With the Visa Signature offer you get:

  • 25,000 miles on approval.
  • Additional 25,000 miles after spending just $1,000 within the first 90 days.
  • $99 annual companion ticket.

There is a $75 annual fee which is not waived, and there is a 3% foreign transaction fee with this card. If you cancel the card within 60 days, you’ll get the annual fee refunded.

When filing out the application, you can leave the Frequent Flyer number blank if you do not have an account.

If you are not approved for the card, you can try calling the reconsideration department  at 1-866-530-9829. If you are asked for a priority code, you can use VAB3E9.

You can check your application status here.

Though Alaska air is not part of any alliance, they do have multiple partner airlines where you can also redeem Alaskan points. When redeeming points on partner airlines there is a small fee of $12.50 for a one way award or $25 for round-trip. Partner airlines include Aeromexico, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Delta Airlines, ERA Alaska, Emirates, Fiji, Korean, KLM, LAN, Pen Air, and Qantas. The only airline that they asses “fuel surcharges” for award travel is on British Airways.

Alaska Airlines allows for 1 way award travel. Plus, When flying solely on Alaska Airlines metal, you are allowed a free stopover on a one-way domestic award, including awards to Hawaii.

When booking Partner airlines for international travel, you can also book one way award travel (excluding Delta and Korean) and are also allowed one free stopover. Though, when booking Delta or Korean you will be charged as a round-trip fare. Just note, that when you book an award ticket on a partner airline, you can only have one partner airline in addition to Alaska Airlines for each one-way segment.

A one way domestic award flight on Alaska Airlines is just 12,500 miles, plus you get a free stopover. When redeeming on American Airlines or Delta, It will be the same amount of miles but you will not get the free stopover.

Changing or cancelling an award ticket 60 days before travel is free. A change or cancellation within 60 days will set you back $125.
