Update 2: This awesome offer is scheduled to end today.
Update: This offer is around again through December 6th. Though this time, the offer is tiered, meaning you’ll only get the full 100% bonus if you share over 30,000 miles. Also, bear in mind that US Airways will be merging with American Airlines, so if you will not be burning the miles soon, they will turn into AAdvantage miles. Also, this is likely from the last opportunities to get in on such cheap Star Alliance (and eventually American Airlines miles) before the merger, so if you’ve hesitated in the past, this is your opportunity.

Here’s an awesome promotion from US Airways. Through October 15th, on the first 50,000 US Airways miles you share with a friend/spouse, US Airways will double the transfer up-to a maximum of 50,000 bonus miles!
Sharing the maximum amount (to receive the bonus) of 50,000 miles (i.e. paying to transfer them to someone else’s account) costs ~$568, including the $30 processing fee and 7.5% excise tax.
But the person to whom you transfer the miles would earn an extra 50,000 miles!
So you’ve essentially only paid 1.14 cents per mile ($568 / 50,000 US Air bonus miles) for the 50,000 bonus miles – which is quite a fantastic deal!!
Of course after your friend/spouse received the transfer, they can then share 50,000 miles right back to you or to another account, again for a total of 100,000 miles for the same cost.
- Accounts need to be open for at least 12 days before they can share miles
- Limited to a Maximum bonus of 50,000 bonus miles for receiving accounts
US Airways is “currently” a member of the Star Alliance, so you can us USAirways Miles to book award travel across 27 different airline partners. US Airways also has some non Star Alliance partners that you can book free award travel on. I write “currently” a member of Star Alliance, because US Airways was supposed to be merging with American Airlines (which is part of the OneWorld Alliance) but the DOJ now has a lawsuit pending against the merger. I f the merger does eventually go through, (it’ll be a while either way) your US Airways miles will convert into American Airline Miles at a 1:1 ratio.
US Airways round trip award tickets to/from Israel are 80,000 miles in coach or 120,000 in business. In addition to US Airways to/from Philadelphia, Award tickets can also be booked on United or Air Canada.
- US Airways miles require some sort of activity every 18 months to keep them alive.
- All award bookings require round-trip travel.
- US Airways allows one free stopover on award bookings.
- US Airways allows 3 day holds on award flights.
- Starwood Points transfer into US Airways miles at a 1-to-1 ratio. And for every 20,000 Starpoints transferred within the same transaction, you will earn 5,000 additional bonus Starpoints.
You can also get more (40,000 free) points by signing up for the easily churnable US Airways Premier World Mastercard Credit Card.
