USAirways & American Airlines Reciprocal Earning and Redeeming + 50% Extra Miles

As of January 7th, American Airlines and US Airways, in the process of merging, have started reciprocal mileage earning and redemption’s. This means that you are now able to book award travel on USAirways flights with your American miles and you can book award travel on American Airlines flights with your USAirways miles. Award availability for both airlines are now showing on each others websites.

You are also now able earn American Airline AAdvatage miles while flying USAirways and vice versa.

Plus, As of yesterday, you can earn a 50% bonus when crediting your miles for flying, to the other airline. For example you fly on USAirways but credit your miles to your AAdvantage account and vice versa. Eventually, both mileage programs will merge and become one account. This promo is valid on flights flown between 01/13 – 03/02.

Even though, USAirways and American Airlines have started reciprocal earning and redemption’s, you are still able to book Star Alliance flights with your USAirways miles and redeem Star Alliance award tickets, such as from United, on USAirways through March 30th. US Airways will ‘officially’ leave the Star Alliance and join the Oneworld alliance on March 31, 2014.

Transferring miles back and forth between your AAdvantage account and your USAirwyas mileage accounts is not yet available.

For the time being, you can also still pick up an extra 30,000 – 40,000 USAirways miles with the US Airways credit card. At some point this card will stop being offered.
