Hilton Award Category Changes For 54 Hotels – Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem Increasing In Category

Hilton Fall 2016 Full List of Category Changes

Hilton hotels will be shuffling the hotel award categories on a few of their hotels. 21 hotel properties will be going up in category, which means it will cost more points to redeem for a free night, and 33 hotels will be decreasing in category, which means fewer points for an award redemption.  index

These changes take effect for hotel award bookings made as of next week, October 12, 2016.

Hilton Hotel brands include Hilton Hotels, Conrad, Waldorf Astoria, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Embassy Suites and others.

If your travel plans include one of the 21 hotels increasing in category, it may be worth it to book your award now, before award redemption’s increase. Bookings can be made for stays up to a year out, and typically can be cancelled up to a few days prior to arrival, without penalty. Once the award changes take effect, if you make any date changes to your award bookings, you will be charged at the higher category rate.

A notable hotel on the list of hotels increasing in category, is the Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem, which is increasing from the current category 9, to their highest category level 10. This means that award bookings made as of October 12, will require 95,000 points per night. Award bookings made before then, will be charged the current Category 9 redemption rate, which is 80,000 points per night.

These award category changes will not affect the 2 free nights you get with the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card.

Back-to-back stays booked under the same name within 24 hours at the same hotel are considered one stay regardless of check-out and check-in activity.

For the one night free promo, you’ll need to book by December 31, 2016, for stays through March 31, 2017 with a Visa Signature or Infinite card.
The Free night will be the rate for the last night of the stay inclusive of associated taxes and fees and will be deducted at the hotel upon check-out. Maximum one free night per room, per stay. Capture1(Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem sample weekend rate, mid June - FREE with just
one of your night certificates!)

I recently made a short jaunt to the holy land – as it was pretty hard to resist with the  $350 ticket deal – and stayed over the weekend for free, using just one night certificate, at the new fabulously luxurious Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem. It was awesome! It’s the nicest hotel in Israel by far. It’s right next to Mamila and just right outside the old city. Service was great and I got an upgrade being that I was a gold member. The meals there are a bit pricey at $110 per meal per adult – good thing I had other arrangements. Breakfast however is free for Gold members, and is just amazing, lavish and abundant. Breakfast ends at 11 am on the weekend, so you can definitely use that as an early lunch if you prefer instead of spending the $110 on the regular lunch meal. The spa was not yet open, though it should be opening within the near future. Once open, it will be the only Hilton property in the world to boast entirely separate spas for both men and women.

Don’t have any IHG reward points? No problem. You can either transfer them from the awesome Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card at a 1:1 ratio or you can buy points direct from IHG. Purchasing 5,000 points will be just $67.50.

Once you have 5,000 IHG points in your account. A “method” to get additional IHG points on the cheap, is to book any cancellable 15,000 point hotel stay at any location using “cash and points” which will be $70+5,000 points. Once booked, simply cancel the reward stay. The $70 that you pay is nonrefundable so when you cancel the hotel you will get back 15,000 points instead, in your account. Just make sure that when booking the room it says that there will be no charge for cancelling. With this option the points will come out to just 0.7 cents per point or just $35 for 5,000 points!
